Chilled to the bone

(25/01/2016) Have done a bit of a repaint and rebase on these half dozen 28mm plastic skeletons that I picked up from a bring and buy a few years ago. Have been using them at the club Frostgrave games so thought would give them a make-over!

Lord of the Rings - Mordor Orcs

A good few years ago, before discovering the Xbox, my lad was into Games Workshop LOTR big time and, although his interest waned, I'm still wading through a large stash of unpainted Mordor and Gondor figures.

These orcs have been half done on my painting table for quite a while so during the Xmas period I decided to finish them off.................. no doubt so I can start another batch !

So here are another 24 figures completed:

Frostgrave terrain (update 25Jan2016)

(07/01/16) As usual I've been side tracked from my 'current' project, the Aliens game, by something else!

This time it's Frostgrave, which is gaining a foothold at the Berkeley Vale Club, but for which most of the terrain is somewhat de-frosted! I've therefore started making a few snow effected pieces to add a suitable chill:
Cheap railway modelling trees from China (via EBay) applied to some map-terrain downloaded from Wargames Vault as a pdf and printed on semi-gloss photo paper.

Another pdf download, already in my library, used to make up this stone circle, again applied on top of some map terrain on photo paper.
and a frozen river, again from a pdf download printed onto A4 photo paper.

(09/01/15) another piece of terrain for the Frostgrave games...... clearly there is some long forgotten tale of woe behind these three pillars, one of which has since fallen but presumably was topped by another spearman?

(16/01/16) Some snow effect added to the pillars in my Stone Circle piece courtesy of Polyfilla, the same as used above. Whilst the effect is ok I may have to concede and buy some modelling snow as recommended by buddies at Berkeley Vale WGC:
A couple of new builds this week for Frostgrave terrain. First a pair of cardcrafted small dwellings converted from a simple box template adding an inside face to each wall, snow effect wall tops, internal snow/stone floor and collapsed roof (and some Polyfilla around the base!):

Very pleased with this next piece, again all cardcraft and from my existing library of template pdfs. The walls are from a Dungeon set downloaded from Worldworks Games whilst the tomb was a freebie downloaded many years ago but can't recall from where. The lid comes off which might be useful in some scenario! As before all added to a snow map printed on photopaper and Polyfilla snow added:

(25/01/2016) Another single terrain piece made from card for the Frostgrave games, a well of souls:

Stop your grinning and drop your linen - the Xenomorphs have arrived!

(30/12/15) Father Christmas made good on his promise and delivered two boxes of the Prodos Games Alien Warriors, that's ten 32mm figures in total.

This is what you get in each box, 5 x heads, 5x torso and legs, 10 x arms (L/R) and 5 x tails, plus 5 x bases. There are a number of variations in most parts which allows for ten slightly different aliens.

Easy to assemble and they paint up a treat with just a black undercoat, dry brush of a dark charcoal grey all over to highlight and then selective light dry brushing of a dark metallic.

Papercraft Deep Space Freighter build - part 2

(29/11/15 ) Papercraft Deep Space Freighter build - part 2 : the initial post was getting a bit lengthy so a new post started here and with an up-to-date plan:

Having two separate sections for the middle/bulk of the ship was proving too unwieldy and problematic to tie in the maze of adjoining walls so have decided to go with one (too) big middle section and thus joined the second quarter section on to the new third section:

but it's starting to get too big for my little camera to take it all in so might have to get the SLR out next time!

Ok these are troops straight out of the Nam but couldn't resist a few shots:

Have also started churning out bits and pieces to fill the rooms and corridors so that the finished ship will not look so empty:

(04/12/15) One of the trickiest parts of the build completed, converting the standard Bridge module into a double sized, wrap around windowed, bridge area with space to manoeuvre:
The original.....
 The conversion.....

(13/12/15) Not many opportunities to work on the old tub this week so the only unit I managed to complete was the escape pods corridor:

(30/12/15) Not too much to show for the lead up to the Xmas period for obvious reasons, except for printing, cutting, folding and organising the remaining parts for the last section of the ship:

The Nursing Dead

Bought these four little 'beauties' at the Bristol show Blast-Tastic last month. I've already got a fair shambling horde of Zeds but you can never have too many and couldn't resist these - not sure what Freud would say being as my wife is a Midwife but hey-ho!

As a break from the Aliens project thought I would paint them up:
